The Mowlem Theatre | Shore Road | Swanage | BH19 1DD | Box Office 01929422239 | Tickets £8-£12 |

For the first time in 25 years, a company of professional actors will be resident at the Mowlem theatre in Swanage this August, bringing a hint of the West End to the seaside whilst performing three captivating and entertaining plays:

Yes, Prime Minister is written by the original writers of the famous sitcom and features the much loved characters in a brand new hilarious scrape.

The Secret Garden is a beautiful family show, a touching adaption of the classic book that brings us a spot of magic at a stately home on the Yorkshire moors.

The season ends with a bang as The Game’s Afoot takes you on a rolling in the aisles whodunnit farce of a journey with a touch of Sherlock Holmes.

Old style weekly rep theatre used to be the mainstay of British seaside towns. Each week an increasingly familiar cast would bring you a new show with just 24 hours to turn around the stage and transform themselves into the next entertaining characters. This ‘fly by the seat of your pants’ speed at which they rehearsed and produced each show established the tradition of the audience applauding and cheering when the curtains would open on the new set!

The actors themselves would become local celebrities and would talk to the audience every night, making the whole experience about togetherness and community. It became the training ground for our many greats. Dame Judi Dench, Dame Maggie Smith, Edward Fox, Sir John Gielgud and Sir Michael Hordern all began their careers in rep. And thankfully it’s making a return!

The shows are scheduled from Thursday to Tuesday each week so you may be able to catch two over your stay in Dorset!

Don’t miss the chance to experience the magic of repertory theatre this summer! Help us bring back this wonderfultradition, and you never know, you just might bump into the next Laurence Olivier!
