David and his wife Diana re-opened the tea room in Worth Matravers 1st April 2012. The aim was to provide a fabulous eatery which would delight all senses, and would be open for more than just tea! What they have created is a beautiful environment providing well cooked delicious food for lunch and evenings as well as for a traditional Afternoon Cream Tea.
On arrival at the tearoom they set about painting, decorating and revamping the space which had over the years become a little faded. They trawled the charity shops and spent many a happy day bidding for odd boxes of crockery and bits and bobs to fill the tearoom with beautiful things. The intention was to make it as uniformly mismatched as possible…. lots of different plates, teapots, serving dishes etc as well as nostalgic pieces for the shelves. On the walls they put up old photographs of the village from different years …. all adding to the overall effect.
They found that old radios provided fabulous speakers for their choice of bygone music which would provide the background sound for their diners…. they work perfectly, and David even decided a Roberts radio in the loo would add a little something too.
In the garden they have made the most of the little seating areas among the well planted flower beds and flowering shrubs, creating little nooks of privacy for diners on a sunny day…. an oasis of charm !
